This week our 7th grade classes are continuing our adventure in Texas history. We are covering the early moments of the Texas Revolution. We will be focusing on the early and mid 1830's as the unrest in Mexican Texas is boiling into full-blown rebellion against the Mexican Government. This is an important time in Texas history, the TEKS state that students at this grade level should "understand how individuals, events, and issues related to the Texas Revolution shaped the history of Texas" We will be talking about many of the important figures of the Texas Revolution such as George Childress, Lorenzo de Zavala, James Fannin, Sam Houston, Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, Juan Seguin, William B. Travis, and the person our county is named after, "Deaf" Smith.
I have included a few activities to reinforce their learning of this time frame. Please have them click on they link in each activity to take them to the appropriate website.
- Please go to Quizlet and read about the major people from the Texas Revolution. Several people are listed, take your time and read through them several times. After you feel you know the figures cover their names and see if you can guess who they are by their description.
- You can also go to YouTube and watch this video that will give you a 20 minute recap of the Texans' fight with the Mexican Government and the struggle for independence.
- Another exciting webpage to go to is The Texas Independence webpage. On this page there is more information, but also a fun game, where you can relive the moments of the Texas Revolution.
